The 2019 Joint AAMA and IGMA Summer Conferences are almost here. This event is happening June 17-20, but there is still time to register. By nature of being a combined event, members of both associations can expect to gain even more value from the presentations and content than they do by attending independent AAMA or IGMA events.

Over on the Member Edge blog, AAMA Meetings Manager Florence Nicolici wrote about the many advantages of these two conferences being combined. Now, as the event draws closer, I’d like to zero in on some of the great speakers and outings we will be hosting up in Victoria. For example, I’m especially looking forward to hearing from our keynote speaker, Dr. Patrick Moore, an ecologist and environmentalist. He will be talking about his efforts on working sensibly to find environmentally-friendly solutions to our world’s social and economic concerns, with a tailored focus on what can be done in the fenestration and glazing industry. Prior to becoming a public speaker, Moore started out as an activist and leader in the Greenpeace movement. I’m sure he will have a lot of excellent guidance to share when it comes to our industry’s sustainability efforts going forward.

Other speakers will include: Mike Burk, a strong supporter of the IGMA Glass Safety Awareness Council; Aiñe Curran, President and CEO of the Vinyl Institute of Canada; and Oak Moser, a senior management professional with experience in leading and coaching teams. Read more about what they will be discussing here.

Much like AAMA did 14 long years ago, the last time we met in Victoria, some optional events at the conference will include a trip to the stunning Butchart Gardens and a scavenger hunt around Victoria followed by dinner at the Sticky Wicket Pub. I, for one, will also be participating in the whale watching event on Monday morning, happening just steps away from the hotel. Spouses should know ahead of time that they are invited to an optional traditional English tea at the hotel – a trademark feature of The Fairmont Empress. As always, separate registration for any optional events is required. Be sure to share pictures of any and all events on social media using the event hashtag #AAMAconf.
