Get a crash course in Fundamentals of Fenestration
In case you haven’t heard yet, Fundamentals of Fenestration is AAMA’s latest educational offering -- and we are pretty excited about it! The one-hour online course provides an introductory look at the fenestration industry. It takes you through basic terminology and standards for windows, doors and skylights, covering both residential and light commercial products, as well as commercial and architectural applications.
Since releasing the AAMA FenestrationMasters® program several years ago, we’vereceived feedback from candidates going through the courses that there was a need for a scaled-back, overview that could serve as a precursor to FenestrationAssociate and FenestrationMaster curriculum. In creating this course, we had these candidates and several other audiences with specific needs in mind:
Professionals New to the Industry
Fundamentals of Fenestration serves as an accessible introduction to the FenestrationMasters program, especially for the Associate level. Candidates will learn a basic working vocabulary and become familiar with functions and requirements of fenestration products, which is vital to getting the most out of the coursework.
Industry veterans can learn specific terminology used in AAMA educational courses in order to avoid confusion among regional and other differences in the way some terms may be used. Even the most experienced professionals may only be aware of their specific segment of the industry. This helps to further expand your expertise!
With this course, consumers have a leg-up when it comes to understanding what exactly to look for when selecting windows, doors and skylights for their home. From learning the difference between a roof window and a tubular daylighting device (TDD), to what it means when a window meets the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS), homeowners will be able to make informed decisions about the fenestration products in their home.
In addition to learning fenestration basics, one hour of continuing education credit can be earned when you take this course, as recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Code Council (ICC). It qualifies for Health Safety Welfare (HSW) credit through the AIA.
Fundamentals of Fenestration is available through the AAMA online store. Three-month unlimited access to the course costs just $40 for AAMA members and $80 for non-members. Customers will receive a downloadable link to the course within two to three business days of placing an order.
Early adopters of Fundamentals of Fenestration have been very satisfied with the course content. An electronic Study Notebook is included with purchase, making it easy to take notes and keep them for reference long after your three-month access is over. With this benefit, the course serves as an effective training tool for anyone involved in the fenestration industry.
