Later this month, industry leaders will meet in Palm Springs for the AAMA 82nd Annual Conference, to be held February 25-28. The conference will be at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells and participants can still register. The AAMA Western Region 2019 Winter Summit will immediately follow the conference in the same location, with registration required. Both events are opportunities for those new to the industry or those who wish to become more involved to work closely with leaders to help shape the industry landscape.

Optional networking events at the conference range from a golf outing, an ATV desert experience, a tour of where area legends and icons spent time and, for spouses not attending meetings, a cooking demonstration with the hotel’s chef. Each of these unique events carries an additional fee and registration. These optional events should be selected when registering, although participants can still add these events to their plans at this time.

Three different receptions will be held as well as the 82nd Annual Awards Banquet. The banquet has a Hollywood-style theme of “Lights, Camera, AAMA!” and has a business attire dress code – a jacket is recommended for photos. A crew of “rat pack” impersonators will provide entertainment in between industry awards being given to winners.

For a one-time-only event to honor an industry leader, a 5K walk/run will be held in memory of Kim Flanary, an active AAMA member for 14 years. Flanary passed away in November.

Speakers at the conference will include a keynote address from Kevin McCarthy, author of BlindSpots – Why Good People Make Bad Choices, as well as John Manzella, who will host a one-hour discussion open to all conference participants called “Labor, Skills and Workforce.” Manzella will also lead an executive leadership roundtable about international business and trade policy in a session open to AAMA members only. Manzella previously presented on the economy at the AAMA 2018 Summer Conference.

Tentative topics at the Western Region Winter Summit following the national conference include the recent California wildfires, AB 262 and material transparency compliance implementation, Net Zero Energy and a Title 24 update, as well as safety compliance and issues in the Western Region states.
