As 2016 winds down, it’s time to begin planning for the year to come. You may have your budget plans in order and your vacation time planned, but have you given your social media presence the attention it deserves? If not, here are some ideas for content you can create and share, as well as some tips for how to make sure your social media plans get off on the right foot come January. Take a look to set up yourself, and your company’s marketing strategy, for a more successful 2017.

Celebrate the season with your followers: What is your company doing to celebrate the holidays? Share some pictures on social media! Next week is AAMA’s annual staff holiday celebration, and we’ll be posting some pictures and updates from the festivities. Share yours, too! Bonus: Don’t forget to save a photo or two to share while you’re out of the office. Use Hootsuite or Buffer to schedule a post now while you’re thinking about it.

Food drive itemsTake this time to give back: AAMA does a Thanksgiving food drive every year, and we take a moment to show what we’re up to and to encourage others to give back if they can. This is a great way to connect with your followers while encouraging charitable giving toward the end of the year.

Make sure your info is up-to-date: Has your company undergone any big changes this year? Make sure those are reflected in your online presence. Check in on your social media profiles and bios to make sure your information is still current. If you’ve undergone a redesign, check your profile and cover images to make sure they’re consistent with each other and your website’s current design. It’s not a bad idea to re-read your company’s About Us page, too.

Re-assess your goals: Which social media platforms performed the best for you in 2016? Which ones got less response and interaction? Are those ones worth staying invested in? If so, how can you increase their performance? These are questions you can ask yourself now as you make 2017 plans.

Plan your hashtags: If you know your events schedule for the coming year for your business, make hashtags a part of your event promotion strategy now. Keep them short and easy to remember. If possible, make sure they’re not being heavily used already for something else.

Find your evergreen content: Now is a great time to go through the content you posted throughout 2016 to see what can be refreshed to post again later, in the coming year. Take a few minutes to see what performed best and, if possible, why. Doing this will provide you with an arsenal of ready-to-go content that you already know gets attention.

Hopefully these tips get you on your way to a successful new year in 2017!
