The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) will host a webinar entitled “Security Glazing for Storefront and Fenestration” as presented by Bill Lingnell, FGIA Technical Consultant, on Tuesday, July 14 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern. Lingnell will be joined by a panel of industry experts, including Julia Schimmelpenningh (Eastman Chemical Company), Vaughn Schauss (Kuraray) and Ivan Zuniga (Kawneer). This webinar is complimentary and open to the public.

“Join us for an interactive presentation on this important safety topic,” said Kaydeen Laird, FGIA Education Manager. “Bill Lingnell will provide an overview of the subject then lead a discussion with subject matter experts, who will also address questions from the audience.”

Specifically, the webinar will cover:

  • Industry standards and documents related to glass and glazing available for security concerns for storefront and fenestration usage
  • Types of glazing used for security purposes including burglary and forced entry resistance, bullet resistance, hurricane resistance and blast resistance

About the Speakers

Bill Lingnell serves as the technical consultant to the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance, having previously also served in this role for the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance. He has been involved in engineering, technical management and construction of major building projects throughout the U.S., Canada and other countries. He has consulted as a technical authority and specialist for general contractors, manufacturers, fabricators, owners, developers, architects and individuals relating to the many facets of glass and wall systems used on architectural construction projects.

Julia Schimmelpenningh, Architectural Industry Technical Manager - Advanced Material Interlayers Business of the Eastman Chemical Company, has more than 30 years of experience in lamination and laminated glass applications support. Schimmelpenningh provides technical product support to glass fabricators, architects, designers, engineers and specifiers. Her work includes new product development, qualification and commercialization of laminated glazing solutions, regulatory development, industry education and association support. Schimmelpenningh also manages the America’s Customer Applications and Support Laboratory in Springfield, MA.

Vaughn Schauss, Manager, Technical Consultancy Americas at Kuraray, works with architects and specifiers, structural engineers, façade consultants and glass fabricators on the specification, design and use of laminated glass in buildings. He began his career working directly with glass laminators providing expertise on the lamination process. Now, he concentrates his efforts on structural, security, acoustical and hurricane applications for laminated glass.

Ivan Zuniga, Product Manager for Storefronts, Entrances and Framing at Kawneer, holds a B.S. in Engineering from Virginia Tech, an MBA for Georgia State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer. With more than 20 years of experience in the fenestration industry, he is an active member of FGIA, where he Co-Chairs the Sustainability Steering Committee and the Acoustical Substitution Task Group. He is a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Atlanta Chapter and holds a Construction Documents Technology (CDT®) certification.
